Schools that wouldn't even post a picture of the previous President are slobbering all over themselves with this one.
All I can say is, they better have an opt-out option. ◼ Read it. It's pretty creepy.
"Why is it important that we listen to the President, and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important? Heh, how about IS what they say important?
As the President speaks teachers can ask students to write down key ideas or phrases... students could use a note-taking graphic organizer such as a Cluster-web, or students could record their thoughts on sticky notes... they could think about the following: What is the President trying to tell me? What is the President asking me to do?
Imagine if Bush had done this! No, This is the precursor to Obama's mandatory volunteerism (Universal Voluntary Public Service). He spelled it out during the campaign, so many hours for little kids, more for high school... then it will be you can't get student loans unless you have complied, can't get into college unless you have complied...
This is wrong. And if there is one thing that is going to turn people off - it is this excessive, unending preaching by Obama and his ilk. Get off it.
Call your school today, find out if they are planning to "participate" - find out if they have an opt-out plan. And let them know that if they don't have an opt-out plan they will have no ADA (average daily attendance) money for that day.

Obama says that as president he will "set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year." What he doesn't say is that he'll make such voluntarism compulsory by attaching strings to federal education dollars. The schools will make the kids volunteer. It's called plausible deniability.
