◼ ...When I see those in government, both locally and in Washington, spend and tax and come up each day with new ways to spend and tax—health care, cap and trade, etc.—I think: Why aren't they worried about the impact of what they're doing? Why do they think America is so strong it can take endless abuse?

I think I know part of the answer. It is that they've never seen things go dark. They came of age during the great abundance, circa 1980-2008 (or 1950-2008, take your pick), and they don't have the habit of worry. They talk about their "concerns"—they're big on that word. But they're not really concerned. They think America is the goose that lays the golden egg. Why not? She laid it in their laps. She laid it in grandpa's lap.

They don't feel anxious, because they never had anything to be anxious about. They grew up in an America surrounded by phrases—"strongest nation in the world," "indispensable nation," "unipolar power," "highest standard of living"—and are not bright enough, or serious enough, to imagine that they can damage that, hurt it, even fatally.

We are governed at all levels by America's luckiest children, sons and daughters of the abundance, and they call themselves optimists but they're not optimists—they're unimaginative. They don't have faith, they've just never been foreclosed on. They are stupid and they are callous, and they don't mind it when people become disheartened. They don't even notice. The people making policy today do not know where their food comes from.

The way out is a return to our founding principles. Individual freedom. Freedom from excessive taxation. Freedom to choose, and smaller, not bigger government. That's what the Tea Parties are about. That's whay people are trying to say. But the legislators turn a deaf ear.

The Obama Administration has made serious mistakes in its handling of the crisis in Honduras where it supports the return of the deposed president, Mel Zelaya. The Administration categorized the removal of Zelaya as a coup when, in fact, the Honduran military has had no role in governing the country. The Honduran Congress and Supreme Court abided by their Constitution and rule of law and ousted Zelaya because he had violated the law. As a result, the crisis in Honduras today is almost unmanageable. So what does this behavior reveal about Mr. Obama's respect for the separation of powers, as Mary Anastasia O' Grady from the Wall Street Journal accurately points out, that he would instruct Secretary of State Clinton to punish an independent court because it did not issue the ruling he wanted? Is this administration forcing a foreign nation to violate its own laws?...

Why is Zelaya's return so important for Soros and Restrepo?

Actually, in October 13, 2008, then Honduran President Manuel Zelaya said at a Soros - funded Latin American Commission on Drugs and Democracy conference held in Tegucigalpa: "Drug use ought to be legalized as a way to combat violence." He proposed creating a regional counternarcotics plan that would displace the US-led efforts in Colombia and Mexico. It was in this conference that Soros presented his plan for a paradigm shift within democracies to accommodate legalization. A few weeks later
 Zelaya appeared with Soros at a U.N. Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean conference in the Dominican Republic openly calling for the legalization of drugs - supposedly to reduce violence.

...Many have been asking, what is behind Soros' obsession with drug legalization? Does he have clients in his hedge funds that have links to illegal activities? Soros has categorically denied receiving money from drug cartels or any criminal network, but the fact remains, however, that at least some of his financial operations have been based offshore, in banking and financial centers that are widely reported to be considered conducive to money laundering. The Soros fund is based in the Netherlands Antilles, a self-governing federation of five Caribbean islands. A CIA factbook describes the region as "a transshipment point for South American drugs bound for the U.S. and Europe; and a money-laundering center." In fact, Soros' partner, Peter Lewis, considered by the Washington Post as "one of the country's 10 most generous philanthropists," was arrested in 2000 in New Zealand for "importing" drugs, including hashish and marijuana....

That the Obama Administration chooses to go along with Zelaya, who violated the Honduran Constitution and is a protégé of Chavez and would therefore employ all the same anti- American policies, appears to be working against our own national security interests. Certainly, without Zelaya in power Chavez has lost, for now, another country to the forces of democracy.

Scientists discover gene that 'cancer-proofs' rodent's cells

◼ The findings, presented in today's issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, show that the mole rat's cells express a gene called p16 that makes the cells "claustrophobic," stopping the cells' proliferation when too many of them crowd together, cutting off runaway growth before it can start. The effect of p16 is so pronounced that when researchers mutated the cells to induce a tumor, the cells' growth barely changed, whereas regular mouse cells became fully cancerous.

"We think we've found the reason these mole rats don't get cancer, and it's a bit of a surprise," say Vera Gorbunova and Andrei Seluanov, professors of biology at the University of Rochester and lead investigators on the discovery. "It's very early to speculate about the implications, but if the effect of p16 can be simulated in humans we might have a way to halt cancer before it starts." GCP

StopTheWitchHunt.org is a newly formed multimedia watch dog portal that will use social media and mobile communications to take a grassroots stand and "call out" the mischaracterizations and hate speech that has been going on for too long.

"History has taught that bad things happen when good people are silent," says Makani Themba- Nixon, Executive Director of The Praxis Project and a member of the Echo Justice coalition. "StoptheWitchHunt.org allows us to confront these scare tactics and make our voices heard."

Make no mistake. These are more of Obama's Stormtroopers, and they are going out to do the dirty work while he plays innocent peacemaker, claiming the hatchet has been buried while his Press Secretary Robert Fibbs blames underlings when he can no longer deny what they have been doing.

What's the message? dare to look into our appointees, and we will ruin you. Dare to question authority and you are toast. Refuse to get in line? refuse to be managed and controlled and we will shut you down.

Cash for Clunkers COST $24,000 per car

◼ Auto sales analysts at Edmunds.com say the pricey program resulted in relatively few additional car sales.

The Cash for Clunkers program gave car buyers rebates of up to $4,500 if they traded in less fuel-efficient vehicles for new vehicles that met certain fuel economy requirements. A total of $3 billion was allotted for those rebates.

The average rebate was $4,000. But the overwhelming majority of sales would have taken place anyway at some time in the last half of 2009, according to Edmunds.com. That means the government ended up spending about $24,000 each for those 125,000 additional vehicle sales.

What is wrong with legislators who CANNOT say "let the taxpayer keep $4,500 of his own money instead of taking it" but will instead SPEND $24,000 - TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND - to hand out his $4,500 - FORTY FIVE HUNDRED - to someone else?

No wonder our governments, state and federal, are failing.

Well, it’s in how Edmunds crunched the numbers.

In the end, almost all C4C did was steal sales from the new model year. Dealers unloaded last year’s models, and their new inventory will sit on the lots without the buyers they may have had otherwise. The destruction of used cars will make it more difficult for lower-income earners to buy vehicles, thanks to a shortage of about 700,000 in the national inventory. That will impact employment and consumer spending indirectly, which will mean a drag on future GDP growth.

Meanwhile, we spent almost as much to buy an average new car to incentivize each legitimate new sale. Is this smart economic management? Or is this yet another data point that proves that this administration has no idea how a free-market economy works, and even less idea of how a top-down managed economy fails?

This is nearly double the 1.1% found in August but up only slightly from the 1.6% reported at this time last year -- even amid concerns about the potentially widespread impact of H1N1.

While the President's Council of Advisers on Science and Technology estimated in late August that as many as 50% of Americans will contract the so-called swine flu this season (compared to 5% to 20% who get some form of influenza in a typical year), there has not yet been any detectable uptick in self-reported flu incidence relative to the same months in 2008 since the H1N1 outbreak first reached the U.S. in April.

OK - It's hard to separate the hype from reality.

We have seen the Bird Flu (remember all the chickens being slaughtered?) and any number of other situations hyped - every sniffle is seen as the next epidemic, every raindrop is the next 100 year flood... we've seen scientists prostrate themselves over global warming, and so we know that they are not always truthful and not always correct - we know that they will act for financial and political reasons, and not scientific reasons.

How to decide? Gut reaction. It's all we're left with.

And then we're told it is too late anyway. And they don't have enough vaccine anyway... And it is just as easy to imagine a vaccine gone wrong.

Did you think that another "czar" would be talking about restricting talk radio? That there would be plans afloat to subsidize newspapers-- that is, to create a situation where some newspapers' survival would depend on the government liking what they publish?...

Jeremiah Wright said it with words: "God damn America!" Bill Ayers said it with bombs that he planted. Community activist goons have said it with their contempt for the rights of other people.

Among the people appointed as czars by President Obama have been people who have praised enemy dictators like Mao, who have seen the public schools as places to promote sexual practices contrary to the values of most Americans, to a captive audience of children.

Those who say that the Obama administration should have investigated those people more thoroughly before appointing them are missing the point completely. Why should we assume that Barack Obama didn't know what such people were like, when he has been associating with precisely these kinds of people for decades before he reached the White House?

Nothing is more consistent with his lifelong patterns than putting such people in government-- people who reject American values, resent Americans in general and successful Americans in particular, as well as resenting America's influence in the world.

Any miscalculation on his part would be in not thinking that others would discover what these stealth appointees were like. Had it not been for the Fox News Channel, these stealth appointees might have remained unexposed for what they are. Fox News is now high on the administration's enemies list.... Obama is head-faking us all the time. He is a big bully. You have to remember that Obama always starts out acting a part. Any relationship he has to reality is purely coincidental.

But when he runs into real resistance, as with Putin, Ahmadinejad, or Israel, he backs off. He's running constant bully plays. He's like a third-rate basketball player who is just trying to fake out the other to cover up his lack of athletic talent.

Conservatives are firmly based in reality. Liberals start out from fantasy. This president has learned to play out a bully fantasy to sucker his liberal voters in Chicago -- but then he runs into a brick wall and gets a bloody nose. Like a professional actor he can also drop the act. He'll be very hurt and insulted if we believe him for what he is, but that for the next sucker play.

Suspecting Ms. Paton of falsifying her address to get her daughter into the neighborhood school, local officials here began a covert surveillance operation. They obtained her telephone billing records. And for more than three weeks in 2008, an officer from the Poole education department secretly followed her, noting on a log the movements of the “female and three children” and the “target vehicle” (that would be Ms. Paton, her daughters and their car).

It turned out that Ms. Paton had broken no rules....

under a law enacted in 2000 to regulate surveillance powers, it is legal for localities to follow residents secretly. Local governments regularly use these surveillance powers — which they “self-authorize,” without oversight from judges or law enforcement officers — to investigate malfeasance like illegally dumping industrial waste, loan-sharking and falsely claiming welfare benefits.

But they also use them to investigate reports of noise pollution and people who do not clean up their dogs’ waste. Local governments use them to catch people who fail to recycle, people who put their trash out too early, people who sell fireworks without licenses, people whose dogs bark too loudly and people who illegally operate taxicabs.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend that children ages 6 months through 18 years of age receive a vaccination against the H1N1 flu virus. At this time only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain. The CDC also says a regular seasonal flu shot does not protect against the virus.

It's hard to separate the fact from the fiction. Obama's declaration of an 'H1N1 national emergency' and press reports don't add up with the real numbers nationwide and worldwide.

Is this just another 'crisis' he and his boys are not going to let go to waste? What can they possibly use it for?

How many flu scares have we lived through - bird flu was the most recent, with nice 'Outbreak' charts showing how it would spread and kill us all. You were told to report suspicious bird and crow deaths to authorities. Yet people who did just that met with incredible lethargy and disinterest.

A study released Tuesday from Purdue University said it may be too late for the H1N1 vaccine to be of any benefit to Americans, as they may contract the virus before the vaccine takes effect. The study said most people would be infected during the month of October at a time when the vaccine is not available to most Americans.

H1N1 flu is running rampant throughout the U.S., and the country will have received only 25 percent of the vaccine that was expected by the end of October according to a Senate hearing this week....

The declaration is the second step in the government's response effort. In late April, HHS declared a public health emergency, which allowed the government to release antiviral medications from federal stockpiles to states that might need them.

The national emergency declaration allows Sebelius, on a case-by-case basis, to waive federal rules governing routine medical operations if requested by doctors or hospitals.

For example, to isolate infected patients, some hospitals are planning to establish separate treatment locations in off-site tents or community centers. But without a waiver of current rules, the hospital may not get federal reimbursement if the facility is too far from its property. Hospitals could also ask for a waiver of paperwork procedures if they are besieged by flu patients.

"If there's a surge in patients, you want to be able to put in place more efficient methods of triaging and treating people," said Reid Cherlin, a White House spokesman. "It's a priority for providers not to have to waste time on the phone with federal managers."

"Of course we requested an interview," Fox News Senior Vice President Michael Clemente told the Huffington Post.

This directly contradicts reports by the Associated Press and Talking Points Memo, both of which reported that the White House had excluded Fox News because it did not request an interview.

...Clemente said that when Isham presented that scenario on a conference call with the other pool members — including Fox News — "they unanimously said, instantly, no, that's not gonna fly. Either Fox is in or none of us is doing it."

Once Isham relayed that message to Treasury, Treasury cleared it with White House Communications Director Anita Dunn, who approved Feinberg's interview with Fox News' Major Garrett.

Clemente said, however, that there was now a catch: every network would get two minutes with Feinberg instead of the previously planned five.

In a dramatic shift, the Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that it is throwing its support behind climate change legislation making its way through the U.S. Senate.

Only it didn’t.

An email press release announcing the change is a hoax, say Chamber officials.

Several media organizations fell for it.

A CNBC anchor interrupted herself mid-sentence Monday morning to announce that the network had “breaking news,” then cut away to reporter Hampton Pearson, who read from the fake press release.

Pearson quickly followed up with a second report saying the “so-called bulletin” was an “absolute hoax.” Smelling a rat, CNBC’s Larry Kudlow demanded to know whether the White House had been involved.

Andy Bichlbaum—an alias the activist uses for Yes Men demonstrations—told POLITICO that his group is targeting the Chamber for what he considers “retrograde” positions on climate change....

Bichlbaum said that activists will continue targeting the organization. Bichlbaum said the Yes Men got help with their prank from members of the AVAAZ Action Factory, an activist group, and BeyondTalk.net, an environmental website.

AVAAZ has not returned calls for comment. But a post on the group’s Web site said it had plans to “make this the worst Monday ever for the anti-climate PR machine at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “

Who will gain is Al Gore and the rest of the multi-billion dollar Big Environmental Businesses. And of course, America loses the most. ...

A Del Norte County man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in San Francisco on charges that he threatened in an e-mail to kill President Obama and members of his family....

The case, which was investigated by the Secret Service, is not the first time Gimbel has come under scrutiny for e-mail messages.

In April 2004, Gimbel was accused of complaining about a $5 parking ticket in an e-mail and threatening to deputize "all of the citizens of Crescent City to fix up some of these f- up piggos. Grab those hi-powered deer rifles, each and every, and get in groups of 50 and more and go breeze away to dust the skull of the police chief."

Gimbel was convicted of making the threats, but the conviction was overturned on appeal, court records show.

In another case, Gimbel allegedly harassed a Del Norte County sheriff's deputy who cited him for having faulty brake lights and no proof of insurance....

John Vrieze, a Eureka attorney who represented Del Norte County in both cases, said today, "The guy has some type of obsessive disorder. ... He's become very fixated on his First Amendment rights, thinking that transcends all bounds and that you can say anything you want and that it's protected speech. He probably could stand to benefit from some therapy."

The plot thickens on the media’s character-lynching of Rush Limbaugh. Of the four stories run on ESPN.com about Limbaugh’s bid for the Rams (October 6, October 12, October 15, and another October 15) none of them mention that NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith served as counsel to Attorney General Eric Holder and was a member of Barack Obama’s transition team.

The October 12 article references Smith’s anti-Limbaugh email meant to garner opposition against the radio host’s bid. The report refers to Smith only as the executive director of the NFLPA. Despite the fact that Smith’s opposition was based on Limbaugh’s political commentary, the report failed to mention that Smith’s political connections (including those to whom he donated thousands of dollars) have a vested interest in Limbaugh’s discrediting.

...Smith’s gross conflict of interest and apparent political targeting of Obama’s top foe is a huge story. Unfortunately the media appears too blinded by their prejudice of Limbaugh to report on it.

To summarize, we know that a former Obama official and political ally--who was chosen by the NFLPA specifically for his political clout and connections to the highest rungs of power in government--directly attacked Limbaugh for the radio-talker’s political commentary.

Historically politicians have been prone to vindictive and petty behavior, but never in American history has someone had so much power to pummel his political opponents as President Obama. With control over banks, insurance companies, car companies, media (sports media included) and unions (like the NFL players union), Obama tentacles seem to penetrate into nearly every corner of the nation

DESPICABLE Senators STEAL from the Troops

◼ U.S. troop funds diverted to pet projects

Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis.

Among the 778 such projects, known as earmarks, packed into the bill: $25 million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans and $20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat.

...senators took most of the cash for the projects from the "operations and maintenance" or O&M accounts.

"These are the accounts that pay for troop training, repairs, spares and supplies for vehicles, weapons, ships and planes, food and fuel," Mr. Wheeler said.

Raiding those accounts to fund big-ticket projects the military does not want, but that benefit senators' home states or campaign contributors, amounts to "rancid gluttony," he said.

“I am returning Assembly Bill 241 without my signature. This measure would make it a crime for any person or entity to own or control more than 50 unsterilized adult dogs or cats for breeding or raising for sale as pets. I support measures designed to prevent animal cruelty and that punish persons engaged in the abuse of animals. However, this measure simply goes too far in an attempt to address the serious problem of puppy mills. An arbitrary cap on the number of animals any entity can possess throughout the state will not end unlawful, inhumane breeding practices. Instead this measure has the potential to criminalize the lawful activities of reputable breeders, pet stores, kennels, and charitable organizations engaged in raising service and assistance dogs. For these reasons, I am unable to sign this bill.”
