Even more rare – there were two blue moons in 1999, one in January and one in March. That happens only about four times a century.
Interestingly enough, this is not where the expression “once in a blue moon” comes from. According to NASA, that phrase is believed to have originated in 1883 after the eruption of Indonesia’s Mount Krakatoa. The volcano put so much dust in the atmosphere that the moon actually looked blue in color. The event was deemed so unusual the phrase “once in a blue moon” was coined....

One subpoena went to Internet travel writer Chris Elliott, who obtained an attorney and did not immediately comply.
Elliott, from Winter Springs, Fla., said TSA agents had showed up at his house, demanding that he reveal who leaked the security directive.
The administrative subpoena — a demand for information issued without a judge's approval — is a civil, not a criminal document.
Lucy Dalglish, executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, said her organization is supporting Elliott.
Another travel blogger who received a subpoena, Steve Frischling, said he met with two TSA special agents Tuesday night at his Connecticut home for about three hours and again on Wednesday morning when he was forced to hand over his laptop computer.
Frischling said the agents threatened to interfere with his contract to write a blog for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines if he didn't cooperate and provide the name of the person who leaked the memo.

Not to mention that many of those Democrats who managed to get elected did so by PRETENDING to be more rather than less CONSERVATIVE... only to show their true nature after the election. They could never have gotten elected on their own platform. Some won by appearing more Republican than the Republican in the race. Obama himself went to great lengths to appear moderate, when he is now shown to be anything but, and nowhere even in the same universe.
In other words, dupe the people one more time?
Oh well. Could be a good thing, if it means chucking Al Gore's pet rock, stopping the wanton spending, and actually reading bills before pushing for votes - maybe even some real true working together and hashing out problems with aims towards really solving problems and not winning a partisan victory... too much to hope for. The activists are in charge, Mr. Daley, and the beast has broken his chains. Not gonna be your house pet any longer. Kinda like the guy who thought he could live with grizzlies.

Parker Griffith that he is switching to the Republican Party is just the latest warning sign that the Democratic Party -- my lifelong political home -- has a critical decision to make: Either we plot a more moderate, centrist course or risk electoral disaster not just in the upcoming midterms but in many elections to come....
On the one hand, centrist Democrats are being vilified by left-wing bloggers, pundits and partisan news outlets for not being sufficiently liberal, "true" Democrats. On the other, Republicans are pounding them for their association with a party that seems to be advancing an agenda far to the left of most voters....
Not to mention that many of those Democrats who managed to get elected did so by PRETENDING to be more rather than less CONSERVATIVE... only to show their true nature after the election. They could never have gotten elected on their own platform. Some won by appearing more Republican than the Republican in the race. Obama himself went to great lengths to appear moderate, when he is now shown to be anything but, and nowhere even in the same universe.
All that is required for the Democratic Party to recover its political footing is to acknowledge that the agenda of the party's most liberal supporters has not won the support of a majority of Americans -- and, based on that recognition, to steer a more moderate course on the key issues of the day, from health care to the economy to the environment to Afghanistan.

Combine the land required to generate its food and a "medium" sized dog has an annual footprint of 0.84 hectares (2.07 acres) -- around twice the 0.41 hectares required by a 4x4 driving 10,000 kilometres (6,200 miles) a year, including energy to build the car.
To confirm the results, the New Scientist magazine asked John Barrett at the Stockholm Environment Institute in York, Britain, to calculate eco-pawprints based on his own data. The results were essentially the same.
"Owning a dog really is quite an extravagance, mainly because of the carbon footprint of meat," Barrett said.
Other animals aren't much better for the environment, the Vales say.
Cats have an eco-footprint of about 0.15 hectares, slightly less than driving a Volkswagen Golf for a year, while two hamsters equates to a plasma television and even the humble goldfish burns energy equivalent to two mobile telephones.

I knew a woman who quit smoking when she realized that she didn't have milk money for her kids, but she had money for her several pack a day cigarette habit.
On a much bigger scale - what we are seeing today is a legislature who cries poor all year long, claims not to have money for basic expenditures unless they can raise taxes, yet they have billions to throw around - Cash for Clunkers, "Stimulus" and now Payola for votes to allow them to spend more money than mankind ever dreamed could exist. And they're nowhere near done.
Maybe they really can just print it or conjure it out of thin air.
But they've already spend more than "taxing the rich" will ever provide.
So where's it going to come from?

Because of rampant liberal madness in DC we the American people now owe extra trillion dollars, with another trillion coming this next year. We the people are now faced with 11% unemployment, and 17.2% underemployment, with over 4 million people clinging to the last bit of the jobless safety net, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program. And we are being promised another year of the same – if not worse.
During all this incompetence and failure from DC, the liberal Democrats keep bribing their way (with our money) towards a catastrophic health care bill. A bill which will add new taxes now, start killing off more jobs now and not do a damn thing for health care until after 2012.

No contest: stop issuing three rainforests of press releases every day, change the heading to James Bond-style “Do not distribute” and “leak” a single copy, in the knowledge that human nature is programmed to interest itself in anything it imagines it is not supposed to see, whereas it would bin the same document unread if it were distributed openly.
After that, get some unbiased, neutral observer, such as the executive director of Greenpeace, to say: “This is the single most important piece of paper in the world today.” Unfortunately, the response of all intelligent people will be to fall about laughing; but it was worth a try – everybody loves a tryer – and the climate alarmists are no longer in a position to pick and choose their tactics.

The protection of children is one goal that we can all agree on.
And presumably, it is the motivating mission behind the Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools. But the innocence of our children is threatened by the appointment of Kevin Jennings as Deputy Assistant Secretary of that office. Through his actions and statements, Mr. Jennings has shown that he cannot be trusted with this position and should be removed from it as soon as possible.
As head of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), Mr. Jennings is on record as promoting liberal sex education and homosexual themes to children as early as Kindergarten.
Now, additional information comes to light regarding Mr. Jenning’s association with GLSEN “Fistgate” Conferences, encouraging extreme sexual practices in children as young as 14. After objections were raised to that matter, Mr. Jennings announced that GLSEN presentations and presenters would be more closely monitored. But then, the following such conference included the handing out of “Fisting Kits” to children. The descriptions of the use of these kits are beyond imagination. To endorse this behavior, much less promote it, is unforgivable.
Kevin Jennings must not be allowed to continue to endanger our children.
The undersigned individuals and organizations ask the Senate Education Committee, its members and every individual Senator to demand Kevin Jennings’ resignation immediately. Our children must be protected from the extreme and dangerous practices advocated by Kevin Jennings and the organizations he has represented.

Researchers discovered a $10,000 tax imposed on married couples in the Harry Reid “health” care bill that will not apply to unmarried co-habitants. On top of the already existing marriage penalty.
And remember the clause that raises taxes on those who use "excessive" health insurance - so the sicker you are the more you pay.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 23% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19.

Onlookers describing it as 'like a big fireball that went around, with a great light around it' and 'a shooting star that spun around and around'.
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute was flooded with telephone calls after the light storm.

No advertisements featuring Tiger Woods have run on prime-time television broadcast networks or 19 cable channels since late last month, after reports of his extramarital affairs, according to data from Nielsen Co.
The last prime-time ad featuring the 33-year-old golfer was a 30-second Gillette Co. spot on Nov. 29, according to New York- based Nielsen. Woods also was absent from ads on a number of weekend sports programs, including NFL games, Nielsen said.
“Last weekend there wasn’t any advertisement during those games,” said Aaron Lewis, a spokesman at Nielsen.
The No. 1 ranked golfer’s standing with the public has plunged in the wake of reports of infidelity that followed a Nov. 27 car accident outside his home near Orlando, Florida. Woods’ ranking among celebrity endorsers plunged to 24th from 6th, according to the Davie Brown Index, which is used to gauge the ability of personalities to influence shoppers.
Woods has endorsement agreements with Accenture Plc, Nike Inc., PepsiCo Inc.’s Gatorade, Tag Heuer International SA watches, Electronic Arts Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co.’s Gillette brand.
Neither Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent, nor a spokesman, Glenn Greenspan, responded to phone messages or e-mails seeking comment.

Pencils and notebooks resembling President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign ads have been sold in at least one Columbia school and other public schools, causing the company that distributes the materials to travel around the state yanking the supplies out of machines.
“Don’t be mad at us,” said Greg Jones, a sales representative with Pencil Wholesale. “It was a total accident.”
Pencil Wholesale distributes supplies to six Columbia schools: Parkade Elementary, Cedar Ridge Elementary, Paxton Keeley Elementary, Mill Creek Elementary, Smithton Middle School and Hickman High School, said Linda Quinley, the district’s chief financial officer....
The bound three-ring notebook bears a photo of literal change — pennies, quarters, dimes and nickels stacked into piles. Above the photo, white text reads “CHANGE” over a navy background.
Below the photo, “WE CAN BELIEVE IN” sits above a logo similar to Obama’s campaign image — three red stripes separated by white stripes in front of a white circle with a blue background arching over the circle....
Uh, No. That IS Obama's logo. It is not "similar" - it is IDENTICAL. Be accurate in your reporting. Don't try to dodge the issue.
