To save the imperiled spotted owl, the Obama administration is moving forward with a controversial plan to shoot barred owls, a rival bird that has shoved its smaller cousin aside.Okay, so what happens when the barred owl is also endangered because everyone’s shooting them? They don’t have an answer for that one, but they do admit “an ethical dilemma”
The plan is the latest federal attempt to protect the northern spotted owl, the passive one-pound bird that sparked an epic battle over logging in the Pacific Northwest two decades ago.

◼ Heartland ClimateFakeGate Exposes Rot In Alarmists’ Camp - AJ Strata
...When the false Hockey Stick (showing never-before-seen-warming) was exposed in the middle of the last decade, you would think the alarmists would have learned their lesson about misrepresenting data. Fudging and hiding data (like the directly measured disconnect between tree rings and global/regional temperatures) is scientifically unethical. In the applied engineering world it could be cause for criminal prosecution.
But no – the zealots were on God’s side. So the ends justified any means. Therefore onward they marched.
When the censoring of scientific debate was exposed in the CRU emails at the end of the last decade, you would think those paragons of ‘ climate science’ virtue would stop their madness and consider how far they had sunk. It was clear that a cadre of self appointed ‘experts’ (whose only expertise appears to be in producing shoddy statistics) worked over time to punish dissenting views and data. They almost succeeded....

"Greenhouse gas emissions" cited as reason we need to eat "factory grown" beef
◼ Scientists prepare test-tube burger - Financial Times
"The world’s first test-tube hamburger, created in a Dutch laboratory by growing muscle fibres from bovine stem cells, will be ready to grill in October, scientists believe...."
They're claiming that "meat grown in factories, rather than on farms, will be a more sustainable and less environmentally harmful..." and that this new "meat" will be "more efficient." And they're pushing the enviro-statist line that "livestock farming already accounted for 18 per cent of man-made greenhouse gas emissions and threatened biodiversity worldwide...."
Remember that farming is the next target. Timber has been pretty much wiped out. Fishing, too. Next is farming (Wineries are on the hit list too.)
Now, most "environmentalists" also hate "genetically modified organisms,"* but it's their promotion of the "global warming" crap as a means to gain power that leads down this path. It's full circle, boys. Are you ready for soylent green?
In the name of full totalitarian control, (err, I mean "saving" the environment) how much are you really willing to mess with the environment?
* Caveat: I have never believed that the warmista crowd ever cared about the environment, or GMOs, or flouride, those were just useful tools to dupe the idiots they use as weapons and window dressing, so I am guessing they will happily go down this path. Unless of course..."

Obama and Democrats are baldly reversing decades of touting SocSec as a pension plan that individuals contribute 15% of their income (what your employer puts in is money that would have gone into your wages/salary) over a lifetime of working, into just another welfare program they can both tinker with and make people feel guilty about.

◼ Payroll tax cut undermines Social Security's security - Michael Hiltzik/LA Times
If Social Security becomes just another line item in the federal budget, what's to save it from being swept up in an across-the-board orgy of spending reductions?
...because of the unique features of the program's financing, tampering with its revenue stream is playing with fire. The payroll tax is currently set at 12.4% of wages, split equally between employer and employee, up to a maximum of $110,100. The tax holiday cuts the employee's 6.2% share to 4.2%.
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) put it well when he excoriated President Obama and his fellow congressional Democrats for approving a measure that places Social Security's financial stability on the table. "I never thought I would live to see the day when a Democratic president ... would agree to put Social Security in this kind of jeopardy," he said. "Never did I ever imagine a Democratic president beginning the unraveling of Social Security." --- Email: mhiltzik@latimes.com
Calling it a "Tax Holiday" is the worst kind of propaganda, and Obama knows it.

Supreme Court blocks Montana court ruling to restrict outside campaign spending
◼ When a Montana court ruled in December that the state’s longstanding restrictions on outside campaign spending should be allowed to stand, it was clear that the Supreme Court would have to address the issue. - HotAir
That Montana ruling, after all, stood in contradiction to the SCOTUS’ landmark decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which gave corporations greater freedom to spend their own money in federal elections. Today, the Supremes said the Montana ruling cannot be enforced until the highest court in the country has a chance to weigh in.

Jumping the gun! Remember that BIZARRE question about contraceptives? In the GOP debate? Why was it so weird? The narrative was not yet in place.
◼ “George this is an unusual topic that you’re raising,” Romney responded, “Do states have a right to ban contraception? I can’t imagine a state banning contraception. I can’t imagine the circumstances where a state would want to do so"
It's truly amazing.
Remember earlier in January when George Stephanopoulos, former Senior Adviser to President Bill Clinton, moderated the ABC Republican debate? Immediately following that debate, he was accused of asking “unfair” and biased questions and of running the debate in a manner that was anything but objective. The media is complicit in the White House plans and they KNEW ahead of time that this whole contraception thing was going to be laid out.
And while those particular charges are debatable, what most everyone agrees on is that Stephanopoulos’ sudden decision to shift the topic of the debate to theoretical questions involving whether or not states have the right to ban contraception was…odd (to say the least).
“Gov. Romney, do you believe that states have the right to ban contraceptive or is that trumped by a constitutional right to privacy?” Stephanopoulos asked the slightly bewildered-looking former Massachusetts governor.
It's truly amazing.

Influence, reporters who carry water, and those who don't - the enemies list
◼ This is the first in a Daily Caller investigative series on Media Matters For America. Daily Caller reporters Alex Pappas and Will Rahn contributed to this report.
Founded by Brock in 2004 as a liberal counterweight to “conservative misinformation” in the press, Media Matters has in less than a decade become a powerful player in Democratic politics. The group operates in regular coordination with the highest levels of the Obama White House, as well as with members of Congress and progressive groups around the country. Brock, who collected over $250,000 in salary from Media Matters in 2010, has himself become a major fundraiser on the left. According to an internal memo obtained by TheDC, Media Matters intends to spend nearly $20 million in 2012 to influence news coverage.
Donors have every reason to expect success, as the group’s effect on many news organizations has already been profound. “We were pretty much writing their prime time,” a former Media Matters employee said of the cable channel MSNBC. “But then virtually all the mainstream media was using our stuff.”
...The group scored its first significant public coup in 2007 with the firing of host Don Imus from MSNBC.
...Media Matters soon became more sophisticated in its campaigns against non-liberal cable news anchors. Lou Dobbs, then of CNN, was a frequent target....In November of 2009, Dobbs left CNN. “We got him fired,” says one staffer flatly.
...it was Media Matters that orchestrated much of the opposition to (Glenn) Beck.
...“In ‘08 it became pretty apparent MSNBC was going left,” says one source. “They were using our research to write their stories. They were eager to use our stuff.” Media Matters staff had the direct line of MSNBC president Phil Griffin, and used it. Griffin took their calls.
Stories about Fox News were especially well received by MSNBC anchors and executives: “If we published something about Fox in the morning, they’d have it on the air that night verbatim.”
...Media Matters also began a weekly strategy call with the White House, which continues, joined by the liberal Center for American Progress think tank. Jen Psaki, Obama’s deputy communications director, was a frequent participant before she left for the private sector in October 2011.
Every Tuesday evening, meanwhile, a representative from Media Matters attends the Common Purpose Project meeting at the Capitol Hilton on 16th Street in Washington, where dozens of progressive organizations formulate strategy, often with a representative from the Obama White House.
...“Ben Smith [formerly of Politico, now at BuzzFeed.com] will take stories and write what you want him to write...”
◼ Professor Dershowitz Is Right About Media Matters - Sarah Palin
Harvard University Professor Alan Dershowitz is one of the most knowledgeable and unapologetic defenders of Israel among American academics. This has unfortunately opened him to unfair and intellectually dishonest attacks from his fellow liberals.
In answering a recent attack by Max Blumenthal, formerly of Media Matters for America (MMfA), Prof. Dershowitz said, “Let me tell you, Max Blumenthal and Media Matters will be singlehandedly responsible for (Obama) losing this election. They (the Democrats) cannot win the election and keep this affiliation with them....” More at the link
◼ Inside Media Matters: the enemies list - Vince Coglianese - The Daily Caller
An internal Media Matters For America memo obtained by The Daily Caller reveals that the left-wing media watchdog group employs an “opposition research team” to target its political enemies. Included in the list of targets are right-leaning websites, conservative think tanks, prominent financiers and donors, and more than a dozen specific Fox News Channel and News Corporation employees.

Not that I care - really - but can you decipher this?
"HIS WIFE was assaulted by and ex-boyfriend when she met with him after fighting with HER HUSBAND..."
HIS (Bill Lockyer's) WIFE was assaulted by and ex-boyfriend when she met with him (the boyfriend) after fighting with HER HUSBAND...(Bill Lockyer)
Such convoluted wording. Trying to keep Bill Lockyer's name out of the news?
Then... "According to columnists Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross, Bill Lockyer said his wife believed her former boyfriend was in crisis, but that he was angry and "violently assaulted" her." (The boyfriend was angry and "violently assaulted" her? Or Bill Lockyer was angry and "violently assaulted" her?
So - I THINK the author means the boyfriend was angry and "violently assaulted" her...
BUT... given the convolution, could the "he" be interpreted as "Bill Lockyer" (was angry and "violently assaulted" her.) just as easily?

The Board of Supervisors this week agreed to raise fines to up to $1,000 for anyone who throws a football or a Frisbee on any beach in Los Angeles County.... The updated rules now prohibit “any person to cast, toss, throw, kick or roll” any object other than a beach ball or volleyball “upon or over any beach” between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The political furor over President Obama's birth-control mandate continues to grow, even among those for whom contraception poses no moral qualms, and one needn't be a theologian to understand why. The country is being exposed to the raw political control that is the core of the Obama health-care plan, and Americans are seeing clearly for the first time how this will violate pluralism and liberty....

Komen Foundation Caves to Thuggery ...
◼ Komen Foundation Reverses Decision to end Planned Parenthood Grants - FOX News
I can't believe Komen caved in to these people. It's going to cost them a lot of donations and it sets a really bad precedent for the future. I hope they enjoy extortion, because they've set themselves up for a lot more of it...
Many Komen donors had been objecting to these grants to Planned Parenthood for a long time, and for good reason. They didn't want their money going to support what has become an obviously partisan political organization ... they wanted their money to go strictly to breast cancer research. Komen was simply doing the right thing and responding to their concerns. These donors had welcomed the news that their money was no longer being misappropriated, and they certainly won't be happy with what can only be seen as a cowardly retreat on that decision today. I suspect their displeasure will be reflected in their future donations.
This really has nothing to do with whether Komen donors support the Planned Parenthood mission or not though. It has to do with standing up to thuggery, extortion, and economic terrorism. We're living in a world where openly partisan political organizations are being allowed to use taxpayer money to attack private companies and organizations, forcing them to comply with their agenda or face an onslaught of protests and negative media coverage. Liberals, the very people who claim to support freedom and liberty, are cramming their agenda down the throats of others and trampling the rights of anyone who doesn't share their particular ideology. If this sort of thuggery is allowed to continue, it's only a matter of time before this power falls into the wrong hands, and we all wind up victims of it.
Komen wasn't attacking Planned Parenthood or infringing on their right to pursue their agenda. They simply chose NOT to SUPPORT it, and they were viciously punished for that choice. Their right to pursue their own agenda has been infringed upon, and what started out as a DONATION has turned into extortion. Any one of us, our organizations, or our businesses, could find ourselves on the wrong side of an attack like this.
I have to ask... How many of you people out there who support organizations like Planned Parenthood, the Humane Society, the Sierra Club, or the Heritage Foundation would tolerate being smeared and attacked in your local newspapers the first time you decided NOT to send in your annual donation?
That would amount to extortion, and that's not what America is all about if you ask me.
